Summer Theatre

The iconic amphitheatre in the Sea Garden — 2,150 seats, home of Burgas and the Sea, the International Folklore Festival and the Emil Tchakarov music days.

Address
Primorski Park (Sea Garden), Burgas

The Summer Theatre is an iconic cultural space set in the heart of Burgas's Sea Garden. Created to extend the park's role as a place of rest and entertainment, today it is public municipal property and a key centre for the arts in the city.

History and architecture

The theatre officially opened in 1957. The design, by architect Mirinchev, stands out with its striking appearance in the so-called “antique style”. Its construction continued into the early 1960s, and a remarkable fact of its history is that it was carried out with the active, voluntary participation of the citizens of Burgas.

Cultural life and events

The Summer Theatre's stage hosts a rich and varied cultural programme. Local and national cultural institutions perform here regularly, projects by associations and foundations are staged, and numerous concerts and shows are organised. Among the most popular traditional events are:

  • the Burgas and the Sea national songwriting contest;
  • the International Folklore Festival — the oldest of its kind in Bulgaria;
  • the Emil Tchakarov Burgas music days.

Facilities and technical capabilities

To meet the highest standards for staging events, the Summer Theatre has excellently equipped facilities, which include:
