The Society of Burgas Artists was founded in 1956. As of 2017, it brought together over 100 artists.
The society takes part in the "Friends of the Sea" biennial of contemporary Bulgarian art, revived in 2004 after a 20-year hiatus. The works from the biennial are exhibited in the society's exhibition hall and at the "Petko Zadgorski" Burgas Municipal Art Gallery.
The society's members exhibit in numerous group and solo exhibitions. Two of these are traditional:
- the exhibition on 24 May, at which the "Young Artist" award, named after Rusi Stoyanov, is presented;
- the group exhibition on 6 December — St Nicholas' Day (Nikulden), the feast day of the city of Burgas, when the "Artist of the Year" award is presented.
