Writers' House Burgas

The Writers' House in Burgas (3 Vola Street) is a municipal cultural venue for book launches, literary readings and meetings with readers.

Address
3 Vola Street, Burgas

The Writers' House is a municipal cultural space in Burgas dedicated to literature. It hosts book launches, literary readings, meetings with readers, author talks and other literary events. The building is municipally owned, and the House was officially opened on 1 October 2015 — on the Day of Poetry.

Inside the House there is a small museum corner dedicated to the Burgas poet Hristo Fotev. Its exhibits — photographs, personal belongings, editions of his works, manuscripts and his typewriter — are donations from colleagues, family and friends of the poet who preserve the memory of his work.

Literary community and programme

For many years the House was also home to the 'Burgas Writers' Community' association (BPO, bpoburgas.org) — founded on 24 April 2015 at a general assembly of the Burgas writers' societies, clubs and independent authors, registered as a non-profit legal entity and uniting more than 80 writers and poets. Among the traditional events linked to the community are the autumn literary festivals and the Hristo Fotev National Poetry Competition, while the awards presented include the 'Golden Pegasus' statuette and plaques named after Hristo Fotev and Petko Rosen. The community also publishes the magazine 'More' (Sea).

At the end of 2025 the management of the building at 3 Vola Street passed to the municipal enterprise 'Summer Theatre, Festivals and Concerts', while the cultural function of the venue was preserved. Even today the Writers' House continues to be an active stage for literary life — in 2026 its programme includes literary evenings, discussions, meetings with poets and presentations of new editions.
