Founded in 1954, the State Puppet Theatre – Burgas is a leading professional stage for children's art in Bulgaria. For decades now, beloved characters from Bulgarian and world classics have come to life beneath its footlights, bringing joy to generations of children.
The theatre takes pride in an impressive history, which includes:
- Over 250 productions staged;
- More than 10,000 performances given;
- Close to 3,000,000 spectators.
The company's successes reach far beyond the country's borders. With successful tours across Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas, as well as numerous prestigious individual and collective awards from national and international festivals, the theatre firmly cements its status as a cultural institution of the highest rank.
Today the theatre is exceptionally active – maintaining a rich repertoire of over 20 titles, delighting audiences with 4 premieres each season and giving around 300 performances. As proof of its high level of professionalism, in 2006 the State Puppet Theatre – Burgas made history as the first puppet theatre to receive the Ministry of Culture award for outstanding creative achievements and strong financial results.
