The small peninsula between two sandy strips

Primorsko is a town and summer resort on a small Bulgarian Black Sea peninsula, 50 km south of Burgas. It sits between two natural sandy bays — the North Beach (about 3 km) and the South Beach (about 2 km) — which shape its unique geography. The town has about 3,100 residents, multiplying several times over in summer.

Primorsko municipality also includes Kiten, Yasna Polyana, Novo Panicharevo, Veselie and a handful of other settlements. The local economy rests on tourism, fishing and some agriculture. Since 1952, the International Youth Centre "Primorsko" — a huge holiday-camp complex — has operated here, hosting young people from over 50 countries during the socialist era.

The town is 5 km from the mouth of the Ropotamo river — one of the last wild river mouths in Bulgaria and home to over 250 bird species. The area also includes the Stamopolu marsh (a protected wetland) and the dunes along the South Beach — among the tallest on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.
