History

The village is relatively young — founded by refugees in the 19th century. That gives Lozenets a unique history: a fishing past, a socialist holiday era, and a present as a creative destination.

Fishing hamlet (19th c. – 1944)

Lozenets was founded in the mid-19th century by Greek fishermen who settled in a small cove between Tsarevo and Primorsko. After the Balkan Wars and the 1925 population exchange, the village was resettled by Bulgarian refugees from Eastern Thrace and Asia Minor.

Socialist period (1944 – 1989)

During the socialist era Lozenets became a quiet holiday spot — a place where worker collectives and small state guesthouses would stay. Because it didn't appear on major resort-planning lists, the village kept its authentic feel.

Bohemian Lozenets (1989 — today)

After 1989, Lozenets became a favourite haunt for Sofia artists, architects and musicians. Small boutique hotels, wine taverns and art studios opened. Since the 2000s the village has hosted a series of summer festivals — jazz, cinema and independent music.
