"Adriana Budevska" Drama Theatre
Burgas's main drama stage, with more than 120 years of history and two halls.
Located on the central Tsar Asen street, the theatre combines a rich history with a modern approach to theatrical production, having established itself as one of the most prestigious and active cultural venues in the entire region.
Historical development
Theatre in Burgas traces its beginnings to the late 19th century through the initiatives of local enlightenment societies. The institutionalisation of the venue as a subsidised municipal theatre was voted in 1914, and the first official premiere of the newly formed permanent professional troupe took place in February 1919. Today the prestigious institution proudly bears the name of one of the founders of professional theatre in Bulgaria — Adriana Budevska.
Facilities and capacity
In 2011 the building underwent a complete refurbishment and modern technological upgrade. Today the theatre operates two excellently equipped stages:
- Main hall: 298 audience seats.
- "Apostol Karamitev" chamber hall: up to 105 seats, designed for more intimate theatrical formats.
Including a performance from the theatre's repertoire in your tour itinerary guarantees a high-quality cultural experience and a connection with the authentic artistic spirit of Burgas.
