North Beach
The longest beach strip in the area — around 1.2 km of fine sand, guarded, with beach bars and showers. It starts right north of the old fortress and runs to the mouth of the Karaagach stream. Gentle entry, ideal for families.
Central (Town) Beach
A small 200-metre sandy strip next to the harbour — practical for a midday swim between sightseeing in the old town and lunch. The water is calm, sheltered by the peninsula itself.
Rocky coves to the south
South of the fortress wall the coast turns rocky, with small unnamed coves — good for snorkelling. Right below the walls lie shaded rock terraces, a favourite with locals.
Tip
The North Beach is almost always spacious — even in peak summer. For the best sea view, climb up to Cape St. Yani at sunset — the lighthouse and fortress walls glow in gold.
Spend a day in Ahtopol
A morning stroll along the fortress walls and the Ascension Church, lunch in a fishing tavern by the harbour, an afternoon on the North Beach, and sunset from Cape St. Yani.
