About Tsarevo
Key facts about Tsarevo — a town of about 5,200 inhabitants, the municipal centre of an area with around 9,000 residents, and successor to the Greek Vasiliko.
A seaside town on two peninsulas
Tsarevo is a town and port about 70 km south of Burgas, the last significant settlement on the way to the border with Turkey. It is set on two small Black Sea peninsulas — the southern, historic "Vasiliko" with its characteristic small church, and the northern "Limnos", on which, after the fire of 1882, today's central district with the hotels, administration and harbour was built. The town has around 5,400 residents.
Tsarevo is the administrative centre of the eponymous municipality, which encompasses the southern part of the Bulgarian Black Sea coast — also including the town of Ahtopol and the villages of Sinemorets, Lozenets, Rezovo, Varvara, Brodilovo, Bulgari, Kosti, Kondolovo, Velika, Izgrev and Fazanovo — a total of 13 settlements in the Strandzha mountains and along the coast. The municipality has around 8,350 residents by permanent address.
The town has a calm atmosphere — without the mass tourism of Sunny Beach. The local economy rests on fishing, tourism and viticulture. In summer the population grows several times over with holiday renters and visitors to the nearby Ropotamo and Strandzha reserves.
