About Primorsko
Key facts about Primorsko — a town of about 3,100 inhabitants, the municipal centre of an area with around 6,200 residents, and a holiday hub with international youth camps dating from the 1950s.
The small peninsula between two sandy strips
Primorsko is a town and summer resort on a small peninsula on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, about 50 km south of Burgas. It lies between two natural sandy bays — the North Beach (about 2.5 km) and the South Beach (about 1.5 km) — which shape its unique geographical setting. The town has around 3,100 residents (NSI, 2024), and in summer its population multiplies many times over.
Primorsko Municipality includes the towns of Primorsko and Kiten and the villages of Novo Panicharevo, Yasna Polyana, Veselie and Pismenovo. The local economy is based on tourism, fishing and a little agriculture. During the socialist era the Georgi Dimitrov International Youth Centre operated here — a vast complex on South Beach that received young people from dozens of countries.
The town is about 9–10 km south of the mouth of the Ropotamo River — one of the last wild river mouths in Bulgaria and a habitat for over 250 bird species. Immediately north of Primorsko, behind the North Beach, lies the Stamopolu marsh — a coastal lagoon and protected area, while nearby, in the locality of "Sand Dunes – Perla", are some of the highest dunes on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast (up to about 19 m).
