Saltworks North Beach

Saltworks North Beach

Black, iron- and magnetite-rich sand next to the Burgas saltworks — combine sea bathing with curative mud and lye.

Saltworks North is one of the most unusual and interesting bathing spots near Burgas. It sits north of the city centre, right next to the famous Burgas saltworks and Atanasovsko Lake, along the seafront promenade towards the Sarafovo district.

The beach's most distinctive feature is its black sand, exceptionally rich in iron and magnetite. Because of its dark colour it heats up strongly in the sun, making it great for natural warm-ups. The beach is hugely popular with locals and tourists thanks to its proximity to the pools of curative mud and lye (known as Burgas's free open-air „spa“), where visitors can combine sea bathing with mud therapy.

Saltworks North feels wilder and more relaxed than the city beaches. Access is easy and varied — by car, by the electric tourist train from the Sea Garden, on foot, or by bicycle along the scenic cycle path that runs right beside the coast.
