Tsarevo is the gateway to the Strandzha Nature Park — Bulgaria's largest protected area. It combines Revival-era church architecture, a fishing harbour, a lighthouse and walking trails.
Dormition of Mother of God Church
The original church on this site was built in 1810 but burnt down in the devastating Vasiliko fire of 1882. In its present form, the three-aisled basilica was rebuilt and consecrated in 1895, in the heart of the old Vasiliko quarter. It preserves icons by the Ahtopol painter Ioan, executed between 1797 and 1805.
Fishing harbour
The small harbour gathers dozens of fishing gemii, from which fresh fish is supplied each morning to the market and taverns. A great spot for a morning walk and sunset photos.
Tsarevo Lighthouse
The main maritime lighthouse of Tsarevo was built in 1929 on a rocky island reef south of the bay; an automatic gas-and-oil apparatus was installed in 1932, and in 1955 the lighthouse was electrified. In 1936, a second white lighthouse was built at the southern end of the harbour breakwater.
Strandzha Nature Park
Bulgaria's largest protected area spans 1,161 km² of forested mountain country with unique flora and fauna. Tsarevo is one of its gateways — with a tourist info centre and marked trails to Sinemorets, Rezovo and Balgari.
Arapya and the vineyards
The area between Tsarevo and Ahtopol is known for small vineyards — the characteristic Southern Black Sea varieties such as Pamid, Red Misket and Dimyat are sampled in several family wineries. Combine with Arapya Beach for a complete summer experience.
Central seafront square and lighthouse sculpture
The central seafront square, with its summer stage and lighthouse sculpture (unveiled on 26 July 2014, inspired by the Thracian caryatids of Sveshtari), is the main venue for the municipality's summer events — the Tsarevo Fish Fest in early September, the Festival of Creative Crafts in August, and the Festival of Light.
